Back on Track Indiana: Stage 2


Gov. Eric Holcomb announced five stages to return the state to its "new normal" on Friday. Here is a look at the changes with the start of the next stage, for all counties except Marion, Cass and Lake, on Monday:

STAGE 1 (March 24 - May 4)

STAGE 2 (May 4 - May 23)

  • Hoosiers 65 and older and those with high-risk health conditions should remain home.
  • Face coverings recommended in public; continue to practice social distancing, hygiene
  • Social gatherings expanded to 25 people
  • Essential travel restriction lifted
  • Remote work continued whenever possible

What opens on May 4

  • Manufacturers not currently in operation
  • Limited Bureau of Motor Vehicles branches
  • Public libraries
  • Retail and commercial businesses may operate at 50% capacity; shopping malls may operate at 50% capacity, with 25% in indoor common areas

What opens May 8

  • Religious services may convene with specific guidelines

What opens May 11

  • Personal services, such as hair salons, barbers, nail salons and tattoo parlors, by appointment only with operational limitations; employees must wear face coverings
  • Restaurants and bars that serve food may open at 50% capacity with operational limitations; servers and kitchen must wear face coverings
  • State offices will begin limited services
  • Visitors to beaches, shorelines must adhere to social distancing

What remains closed

  • Assisted living/nursing home facilities to visitors
  • Bars and nightclubs
  • Gyms, fitness centers, community centers
  • Cultural, entertainment, sports venues and tourism (museums, zoos, festivals, sports arenas)
  • Playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball courts, amusement parks, water parks and social clubs
  • Casino operations
  • Community pools, both public and private
  • Residential and day camps
  • Campgrounds, except as permanent residence
  • K-12 school buildings

STAGE 3 (May 24 - June 13)
STAGE 4 (June 14 - July 3)
STAGE 5 (July 4 and beyond)
